Our Story
  Our Food

Homecooking is the new Gourmet! Both at home and on the trail, we are committed to eating well; avoiding “fast-food” and artificial ingredients wherever possible. In bringing our own standard to the Packit Gourmet line of meals and grocery items, we personally select and carefully taste-test each and every item offered to make sure that the flavor, texture, appearance and nutrition are something that we would want to eat at home or on the trail. Having trekked a few miles ourselves, we know that size, weight, water and time conservation are also important so we hand pack and package with that in mind. If we wouldn’t use it or eat it – you won’t see it sold in our store.

You’ll find many homemade flavors featured in the meals we offer – and natural and organic ingredients included whenever possible. Both meal components and bulk products are handpicked to ensure that you are getting what we think is the best product possible; and your meal packs are hand-packaged in a commercially certified kitchen.

We love to travel almost as much as we love to eat! You’ll see a reflection of this in the flavor selections found in our meal packs. Heavy influences of the Deep South, Texas and Mexico are featured throughout our offerings; but you’ll also find traces of Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia, India and South America. All places where we have enjoyed great experiences and fabulous food.

Hand in hand with good food is good equipment. With that in mind, we’ve stocked a number of what we consider to be useful kitchen tools in our “gear” store. Some you’ll recognize as products designed specifically for camping - - but some are items we’ve stumbled upon in feed stores and hardware stores. Our focus is always on size, durability, versatility of use, weight and heat tolerance - - not whether or not it’s labeled for camping. As a result, we offer a wide selection of what we think are interesting and useful tools suitable for the camp kitchen.

Our Company Founders and Guarantee

Packit Gourmet is a mother-daughter owned / family operated business based in Austin, Texas, with field-testing in the Texas Hill Country. We work very hard to bring you palate pleasing meal packs and a great selection of backpacker-friendly ingredients. But we can’t think of everything . . . so if there are any ingredients or meals that you think are terrific on the trail and would like to see us carry, drop us a line and we’ll check it out.

We do believe in the high quality of our food and to back that up we proudly offer a 100% guarantee. So if you're not satisfied, we’ll refund your money, replace any item that you are unhappy with or give you a store credit to use later - your choice!

Our Commitment to the Environment

Packit Gourmet partners with Leave No Trace in an effort to help preserve the beautiful wilderness lands we all enjoy. As a testament to that commitment . . .

  • Our facility is 100% wind powered *
  • Meal pouches are made of recyclable plastic
  • Recycled paper and materials are used wherever possible
  • We “go organic” whenever available
  • Package-free Products are selected and sold whenever possible **
  • Boxes, peanuts and wrap are reused. ***

* What? Your Electricity Comes from Wind Power?

Yep. Packit Gourmet is 100% wind powered through the great City of Austin's Green Choice Program – the nation's most successful utility-sponsored green power program. It allows its citizen customers to offset their individual carbon footprint by helping to promote and finance the development of electricity generated from natural sources. Still on the "grid" - but making an impact!

** Why Package-Free Products?
Some of the products that we sell are available to us in ‘bulk’ meaning that we have the option to purchase them without individual packaging. In an effort to reduce the overall amount of packaging used and disposed of, we order products “in bulk” when available. Your spork may not come in a display worthy box, but you’ll know that you’ve left a less of an imprint on the environment as a result.

*** Why Does My Box Say “Amazon.com?”
It takes a lot of shipments to stock our shelves - - and as a result we have a lot of leftover boxes, packing peanuts, bubble wrap and other packing materials. We save everything that is in good condition and re-use it to package the products that you order. You may get a previously used box or odd packing materials but that’s only because they’ve been given a new life. If they’re in reusable condition, please continue to pass them along.
